What we already do
Though a better and more globally responsible phone is the outcome, cleaning up the supply chain is not enough. This conflict is a political one and demands a comprehensive political solution. It can and must be brought to an end through diplomatic and political means. Ending this conflict will be difficult, therefore we must explore all the tools and means at our disposal in order to bring an end the deadliest conflict since World War II.

Ultimately, it will be up to the Congolese to bring about lasting peace and stability, however, there is much we can do to address and help resolve the conflict in order to help facilitate a brighter future for the Congo. We have laws on our books that can make substantial difference and drive us closer to the goal of Congolese sovereignty and Congolese freedom from the indecency of their civil war; it is for this reason we are appealing to President Obama and Secretary
of State Hillary Clinton to implement the very laws that they initiated and passed as Senators. Being accountable and abiding by U.S. Law to clean up our supply chain is the highest priority for us here at Apple and we call on the President and Secretary of State to do the same by implementing the Democratic Republic of Congo Relief, Secirty and Democracy Promotion Act also known as the Obama Law.
